LOCATION & TRANSPORT
Somerset is a town of more than 3,000 people to the west of Burnie, Tasmania. Somerset is part of the Burnie-Somerset urban area even though the town is part of the Waratah-Wynyard local government area.
The town is situated on the estuary of the Cam River about halfway between Wynyard and Burnie. A sandy beach forms Somerset’s coastline from the Cam River to the western edge of town. The major industries in Somerset are forestry, agriculture and associated industries.
The Bass Highway runs through Somerset, along the coastline, and the Murchison Highway connects the town to the west coast of Tasmania. The Burnie Airport is only 15kms from Somerset.
