It gives me great joy to know that Mr. Ron West has taken up the position of principal of Australian Christian College - Burnie. Ron brings a lifetime of valuable educational experience and a vast array of vital skills to the school.
Knowing that the school is in the hands of a good leader, gives me confidence to take my next step, which is for Di and I to leave beautiful Somerset and to return to our family and other duties in Queensland.
I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support during 2018, as we navigated through the changes at the school. I greatly appreciate all the new friends and relationships that Di and I have made during our time at Somerset. In particular, I want to thank our wonderful staff, who have been so diligent in providing high quality education for your children during the year. It has been a privilege to have been a part of this caring, professional team.
So, farewell to all staff, students and families at Australian Christian College - Burnie. Di and I wish you and your children God’s richest blessings as you continue in the Australian Christian College’s learning community.
Dr. Terry Harding -Acting Principal
What a blessing it has been to have Dr. Harding as the very first principal of ACC Burnie. I am so blessed to follow him and I know he will leave some big shoes for me to fill. But our God is faithful and He has brought me here so that I may continue working in His ministry here at this great school.
We have continued to make the changes necessary to promote ACC and to let the community know that we are no longer Seabrook Christian School. Feel free to come by and see the new look in the offices and pick up some flyers to pass out to your friends and neighbors. We will be doing some advertising over the next few weeks to get the word out that we are a great Christian School, who love to teach your children.
While I have been in Tasmania for the past six years, working at Leighland Christian School, there is still so many people that I would like me to meet. My door is always open if you would like to have a chat, or maybe I could visit your church with you? Just give me a call.
Working together with you to further His ministry,
His servant and yours,
Assembly and Farewell to Terry and Di Harding
What a day of celebration when we think of all the things that Terry and Di have done to start ACC in Burnie. While we were sad to let them go, we had a great day to say goodbye to our dear friends. The students did a wonderful job on all the different items and we had a chance to show some real JOY (our Fruit of the Spirit, this month).
2019 Enrolments - Next Level Day Monday 17 September 2018
We are planning to hold a taster day for any current/new family who may have a child starting High School in 2019. They can come along for the day and be buddied up with a current student.
They will see what a typical day at ACC Burnie is like with academic, sport and practical sessions.
More information to come in the next couple of weeks. If you are interested or know of a family who may be interested please contact Helen at the Office.
In Term 4 we will have an Early Learners Program for any interested Kinder students for 2019.
Thanks to the St Johns Ambulance school visit, the kinders had a great time learning how to look after someone who is injured.Parents, please ask your child to practise rolling you into the recovery position.Ask them what number they need to ring in an emergency.
Also, please help them learn their own address and phone number.
The primary students are learning to play badminton as part of their physical education program this term.We have only had a couple of coaching sessions and already there is improvement in their skills. The coaching sessions go for eight weeks.
First Aid Training
All of our classes had an opportunity to participate in some basic first aid training with St John Ambulance Australia.Activities included - checking for danger, calling 000, how to treat burns, how to use bandages, what to do in an emergency, checking for a response and putting a person in the recovery position.
Book Week is next week, Monday 20th to Friday 24th August.Primary and Kinder students will be participating in various activities throughout the week. Finishing with a dress up day on Friday when students may dress up as their favourite story book character.
National Tree Day
On Monday Damian Bissett, our Groundsman, made a start with preparing the ground and planting some of our tree seedlings.
If students can bring sturdy shoes/gumboots and old clothes next Monday 20 August, so we can get busy planting the rest of our tree seedlings.
Tuesday After School Table Tennis
ACC students from kinder to grade 10 have been enjoying all the fun and fitness of table tennis. The regular after school sessions have been a hit with students getting into some fitness and agility as well as learning the finer points of this fun indoor game. Table tennis is great for hand eye coordination. Also because it takes a lot of concentration, it’s a good way for students to unwind after a day in the classroom.
The session is from 3:15pm to 4:30pm each Tuesday of the school term.
Thank you Darren and Alison Gray, you make these sessions possible.
We have student banking with the Commonwealth Bank each Tuesday of the School Term.If you would like to start an account for your child, Helen has some information at the office. The rewards for 2018 are shown below.
