Principal’s Message

Press Pause

Dear Friends,

The College has made a great start to the 2018 academic year. Our staff and students have settled well into all College activities.

Our students have adapted enthusiastically to the changes in our educational program. They are becoming more familiar with the technology and the new classroom procedures. It is a joy to be in the classrooms and to see your children engaging with their learning and trying new things.

I have also enjoyed meeting with many of you both formally in various meetings and informally around the campus. Thank you to all parents, guardians and relatives who came to our Working Bee and to our recent Parent Meeting. It is great to have a “family” culture at the College.

As mentioned at the Parent Meeting, the College Board has asked me to assume the role of acting principal at Australian Christian College Burnie, until it appoints a new, permanent principal. I have acted in this position of interim principal in the past and I feel that it is a privilege to do so again, here at Somerset. We ask you to join us in praying for God’s choice of the new principal at ACC Burnie.

The College Board is committed to developing all three campuses of Australian Christian College in Tasmania. The College staff is committed to providing your children with an excellent Christian educational program in a safe, caring and happy learning environment.

I look forward to serving you, our students and our wonderful staff, as we continue to provide quality education for your children. I also look forward to getting to know many of you and your children during the time I have here at the College.

Yours for Christ and Christian education,

Terry Harding
Acting Principal

Bible memorisation

Students will be memorising, discussing and reflecting on 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 during the first 4 weeks of school. Please feel free to encourage your student to learn this passage and then to say it to their teacher.

  2. Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;
  3. does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil;
  4. does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;
  5. bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
  6. Love never fails.

Word meanings

Vs. 4 – “suffers long” – means to have a lot of patience

Vs. 6 – “iniquity” – means a wrong act; injustice

Learning at Australian Christian College Burnie

Australian Christian College is focussed to good teaching and learning. We are committed to your child’s intellectual, physical, spiritual and social development, as indicated in the development of Jesus when he was a teenager. Luke 2:52 helps us to understand these important aspects of a child’s development, stating that Jesus grew in “wisdom and stature and in favour with God and men”.

When it comes to learning, Jesus taught us that the “key to knowledge” and learning is for people to “enter in” to that knowledge (Luke 11:52). By “entering in” to knowledge, Jesus meant that people engage with what they are being taught, and that turns into learning.

True learning happens when a person accepts, receives and engages with the things that are being taught. It doesn’t matter if the things being taught are in the fields of Maths, English, Science, good manners, spiritual truth or character development; learners must engage with what they are being taught. True learning at school happens when your children engage with or “enter in” to what they are being taught.

At Australian Christian College, our staff are committed to assisting your children to engage with what they are being taught, so that they will be learning from their lessons, constantly throughout the academic year.

We are committed to your child being:

  • Well known
  • Well loved and
  • Well taught
